"Dream Future, Think Eco, Act Kenaf"
Kenaf atau nama saintifiknya Hibiscus cannabinus merupakan sejenis tanaman jangka pendek yang berasal dari Afrika (barat Sudan) dengan sejarah tanaman ini yang melebihi 4,000 tahun. Kenaf tergolong dalam famili Malvaceae dan berada di bawah genus Hibiscus yang mempunyai persamaan dengan tanaman kacang bendi dan juga kapas. Secara morfologi, kenaf mempunyai kaitan yang rapat dengan tanaman roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa). Kenaf boleh hidup subur di kebanyakan tanah di negara ini. Kenaf juga banyak di tanam secara komersial di China, Myanmar, India, Bangladesh dan Thailand. Di Malaysia, tanaman ini mula mendapat perhatian sebagai bahan mentah alternatif dan mesra alam bagi sektor industri berasaskan sumber hutan dan petroleum.
Bagi memastikan usaha-usaha pembangunan dan pengkomersialan kenaf bagi menggantikan tanaman tembakau berjaya, kerajaan perlu memberi sokongan yang padu kepada penanaman kenaf, sama seperti sokongan yang telah diberikan kepada penanam tembakau. Tanaman kenaf dilihat sebagai lebih berpotensi dan stabil berbanding tanaman – tanaman lain bagi menggantikan tanaman tembakau sebagai sumber pertumbuhan baru (New Source Of Growth).
Dalam usaha mempromosikan tanaman kenaf bagi menggantikan tanaman tembakau, Lembaga Kenaf dan Tembakau Negara (LKTN) perlu disusun semula untuk mengambil alih fungsi baru iaitu menggalakkan tanaman kenaf melalui Lembaga Kenaf Tembakau Negara (LKTN).
